Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up within New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). Two years later she became a general reporter for NBC News in Washington. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office in 1988. She was appointed the chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell has been a panelist and anchor of the TV program Meet the Press. She participated as a member of the panel during the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in the field of journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering for the White House in 1981-1988, in both the Reagan presidency. She covered a wide range of noteworthy stories including arms control the budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal and traveled extensively along with the President Reagan for summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
